About Ernest Akobuor Debrah
Ernest Akobuor Debrah was a banker and New Patriotic Party (NPP) politician who represented Tano North, in today's Ahafo Region, from 2005 to 2013 and served as Minister for Food and Agriculture from 2005 to 2009. He was born on 3 June 1947 and came from Tanoso.
He attended Sunyani Secondary School and Ghana National College, graduated in land economy from KNUST in 1972 and earned an MBA from the University of Strathclyde. He was chief manager of retail banking at SSB, later Societe Generale Ghana. Under President Kufuor he was Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister and then Northern Regional Minister from 2001 to 2004, before winning Tano North in 2004 and moving to the agriculture ministry. He held the seat in 2008. Freda Prempeh followed him in 2013. He died at home on 6 April 2016 after a short illness. He was married with four children.
