About Jacob Iddriss Abdulai
Jacob Iddriss Abdulai is a geodetic engineer who represented Savelugu in the Northern Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from 2021 to 2025, after winning one of the closest contests of the 2020 election. He was born in Savelugu on 24 February 1957.
Road engineer
Abdulai trained at the survey school, studied geodetic engineering to degree level and took an MSc in road and transportation engineering. He worked as an engineer with the Ghana Highway Authority.
A 99-vote win
He first ran for Savelugu in 2016 and lost to the NPP's Abdul Samed Muhammed Gunu. In the 2020 rematch he won by just 99 votes, 19,577 to 19,478. Gunu challenged the result in court, but the Tamale High Court dismissed the petition in December 2023. In Parliament Abdulai sat on the Government Assurance and Roads and Transport committees.
Abdul Aziz Fatahiya won Savelugu for the NPP in 2024.
