James Klutse Avedzi

James Klutse Avedzi is a chartered accountant who represented Ketu North in the Volta Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for twenty years, until 2025. He chaired both the Finance Committee and the Public Accounts Committee and served as the NDC's Deputy Minority Leader. He was born on 14 July 1964 and comes from Xipe.

Government accountant

Avedzi qualified as a chartered accountant and chartered tax practitioner and worked as principal accountant at the Controller and Accountant-General's Department from 1995. He later took a master's degree in finance and accounting at the University of Liverpool.

Parliament's money man

He entered Parliament in 2005 and quickly became one of the NDC's experts on public finance, chairing the Finance Committee when the party was in government and the Public Accounts Committee in opposition. He rose to Deputy Minority Leader, but in 2023 the party removed him in a leadership reshuffle that replaced him with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah. The change angered many NDC supporters, and the party defended it as a move towards regional balance.

His wife died in January 2020. He worships in the Global Evangelical Church. Eric Edem Agbana of the NDC succeeded him as MP in 2025.
