John Akologu Tia

John Akologu Tia was a journalist and National Democratic Congress (NDC) politician who represented Talensi in the Upper East Region for twenty years, from 1993 to 2013, and served as Minister for Information under President Mills. He was born at Gambaga on 23 September 1954.

He went to Tamale Secondary School and the Ghana Institute of Journalism, and worked for the Information Services Department and then the Ghana News Agency from 1982 to 1990. He was also a union leader in the Public Services Workers' Union. He entered politics under the PNDC as press secretary of the Upper East CDR secretariat and won Talensi in the first election of the Fourth Republic in 1992. He held it through four more elections and sat in the ECOWAS Parliament from 2007. President Mills made him Minister for Information in 2009. He lost the seat in 2012 to Robert Nachinab Doameng. He died at the Upper East Regional Hospital on 24 March 2024, aged 69.
