About Abdul-Samed Muhammed Gunu
Abdul-Samed Muhammed Gunu is an accountant and development worker who became the first New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate to win Savelugu in the Northern Region, representing it from 2017 to 2021. He was born on 6 April 1966.
Gunu attended Ghana Senior High School in Tamale, studied accounting at Tamale Polytechnic and took a master's in NGO and rural development at the University for Development Studies. His 2016 win came with just 34 percent in a crowded field. In 2020 he lost to the NDC's Jacob Iddriss Abdulai by 99 votes, and his challenge to the result was dismissed by the Tamale High Court, which ordered him to pay costs. He lost the December 2023 NPP primary to Abdul Aziz Fatahiya, who won the seat in 2024. He is married with eight children.
