Abubakar Fatimatu

Fatimatu Abubakar was Ghana's Minister for Information from February 2024 until the end of the Akufo-Addo government in January 2025, taking over from Kojo Oppong Nkrumah after nearly three years as deputy minister.

Background

She was born in Kumasi and studied psychology and English at the University of Ghana. As a student she was vice president of the Akuafo Hall JCR in 2008 and ran for coordinating secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students in 2010. She later qualified as a lawyer.

Career

Before politics she worked at Lansdown Resort in Aburi, the Danquah Institute and SRM Engineering. She was a campaign aide to Nana Akufo-Addo in 2016 and 2020 and was part of his legal team in the 2020 election petition. In January 2017 she became deputy director of communications at the presidency, and in June 2021 deputy Minister for Information. She is a member of the NPP.
