About Abubakar Saddique Boniface
Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface is an economist and long-serving New Patriotic Party (NPP) minister who represented two constituencies, Salaga and later Madina in Accra, and held posts under both Presidents Kufuor and Akufo-Addo. He was born on 14 November 1960.
Kufuor years
Boniface studied at KNUST and took an MA in economics at the University of Exeter, and worked as an economist and civil servant. He first won Salaga in 2000, taking it from the NDC's Hamidu Baba Braimah, and held it in 2004. Under Kufuor he was Minister for Manpower, Youth and Employment from 2005 to July 2007, then a minister at the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing.
Madina and the Zongos
He won Madina in 2016. Under President Akufo-Addo he became Minister for Inner Cities and Zongo Development, and later Minister of State at the Office of the Vice-President. He pledged to treat Zongo residents fairly regardless of religion, ethnicity or background. He is married with five children. Francis-Xavier Sosu of the NDC holds Madina today.
