Abuga Pele

Abuga Pele is a former tax inspector and National Democratic Congress (NDC) politician who represented Chiana-Paga in the Upper East Region across five parliaments, from 1997 to 2017, and was national coordinator of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA). He was born on 3 March 1958.

Pele earned an MPhil at the University of Ghana in 1988 and worked as an inspector of taxes at the Internal Revenue Service. In 2018 the Accra High Court convicted him on charges of abetment of fraud and wilfully causing financial loss to the state in connection with GYEEDA and sentenced him to six years in prison. In July 2021 President Akufo-Addo pardoned him on health grounds while he was critically ill in hospital. He lost the 2016 NDC primary to Rudolf Amenga-Etego. Nikyema Billa Alamzy of the NDC holds the seat today.
