Akua Sena Dansua

Akua Sena Dansua is a journalist and former minister who represented North Dayi in the Volta Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for three terms, from 2001 to 2013. She was born in Hohoe on 23 April 1958 and her family comes from Botoku.

Journalism

She went to Mawuli School, trained at the Ghana Institute of Journalism and later studied communication at Legon and governance at GIMPA. She was chief reporter of the Nigerian Reporter in the 1980s and features editor of the Weekly Spectator in Accra, and in 1991 won the Dag Hammarskjold fellowship as the most promising young African journalist.

Government

Under the PNDC she was District Chief Executive for Kpando. President Mills made her Minister for Women and Children's Affairs in 2009, then Ghana's first female Minister for Youth and Sports in 2010, then Minister for Tourism in 2011. President Mahama sent her to Germany as ambassador from 2014 to 2017, with accreditation to Latvia. In 2025 she was appointed to the Judicial Council and named chair of the Local Government Service Council. She is an Evangelical Presbyterian with three children. Joycelyn Tetteh of the NDC holds North Dayi today.
