Akwasi Konadu

Akwasi Konadu is a Ghanaian development policy professional and politician born on 25 July 1982 in Paakoso in the Ashanti Region, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Manhyia North constituency. A member of the New Patriotic Party, he won the seat in 2020 after three attempts at the party's parliamentary primaries spanning nearly a decade, and was re-elected in 2024 for a second term representing one of the constituency seats within the metropolitan area of Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.

Education

Konadu attended Opoku Ware Secondary School, one of Kumasi's most academically prestigious secondary institutions. He proceeded to the University of Ghana in Legon, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with Philosophy. He then pursued postgraduate education at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, completing a Master of Science degree in Development Policy and Planning, a qualification that oriented his academic formation toward the practical analytics of development governance, resource allocation and planning systems.

Professional career and party journey

Alongside his parliamentary career, Konadu serves as a Director for the Ghana Water Company Limited, a role that gives him operational involvement in one of Ghana's critical infrastructure institutions and an engagement with water access and utility management relevant to his parliamentary representation of an urban constituency. His path to Parliament was marked by persistence: he contested the NPP parliamentary primaries for Manhyia North in both 2012 and 2016, losing on both occasions to the incumbent Collins Owusu Amankwah. In June 2020, on his third attempt, he prevailed in the primaries by a margin of just five votes (278 to 273), one of the tightest primary victories on record. He went on to win the parliamentary seat in the December 2020 general election.

Parliamentary career

Konadu assumed office on 7 January 2021 and was re-elected in December 2024, securing his second term in the Ninth Parliament where the NPP sits in Minority. His experience in development policy and his directorship of a water utility give him technical depth relevant to constituency infrastructure, urban planning and service delivery debates within Parliament.
