Akwasi Darko Boateng

Akwasi Darko Boateng is a New Patriotic Party (NPP) politician who represented Bosome-Freho in the Ashanti Region for a single term, from January 2021 to January 2025. He was born on 20 June 1967 and comes from Apewu-Dwumako.

Unseating the incumbent

Boateng worked in the private sector, including at Auto-Life Company Limited and Pescourt Hotel, and holds an executive master's in governance and leadership. His entry into Parliament began with an upset in the 2020 NPP primary, where he beat the sitting MP, Joyce Adwoa Akoh Dei, who finished third. He then won the general election with about 73 percent of the vote.

Education fund

Early in his term he distributed equipment and supplies across the constituency, from sewing machines and barbering tools to boots and machetes for farmers, and launched an education fund for needy students with GH₵30,000 in seed money. In Parliament he sat on the Youth, Sports and Culture and Judiciary committees.

The primary system that brought him in also took him out: in 2024 he lost the NPP ticket to Nana Kwame Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, who went on to win the seat.
