About Abdulai Abanga
Abdulai Abanga is a chartered accountant who represented Binduri in the Upper East Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2021 to 2025 and served as a Deputy Minister for Works and Housing. He was born in Akwatia in the Eastern Region on 25 May 1970, but his family comes from Binduri near Bawku.
Accountant
Abanga grew up between Akwatia and Binduri and finished secondary school at Ghana Secondary School in Tamale. He took a diploma in accounting at Tamale Polytechnic, a BCom at the University of Cape Coast in 1998 and a master's in development finance, and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2005. He was finance officer of the National Governance Programme from 2001 to 2007 and management accountant at the Millennium Challenge Account's Ghana programme.
Winning Binduri
In 2020 he took Binduri from the NDC's Robert Baba Kuganab-Lem by about 450 votes, a rare NPP gain in the Bawku area. He was vice-chair of the Government Assurance Committee. Mahmoud Issifu of the National Democratic Congress won the seat in 2024.
