About Kafui Danku

Kafui Danku is a Ghanaian actress, film producer and author. After almost a decade in front of the camera she moved into film administration, and in 2025 she was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), the state body that regulates and promotes Ghana's film industry.

From Ho to the pageant stage

She grew up in Ho, though her family's hometown is Tanyigbe-Etoe in the Volta Region. Her mother, Agnes Asigbey, is a retired nurse and her late father was John Danku. She attended Mawuli Primary and JSS and OLA Girls Senior High School in Ho, then read English at the University of Cape Coast. In 2004 she won Miss Greater Accra and reached the final of Miss Ghana. Before acting full time she worked with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) as a repatriation assistant.

Films and production

She entered the movie industry in 2009. One of her first films, Agony of the Christ, put her on screen alongside Majid Michel and Nadia Buari. She has since appeared in titles including Any Other Monday, Alvina: Thunder and Lightning, I Do and 4Play. She co-owns ABC Pictures GH, the production company behind several of her projects.

Writing and causes

In March 2018 she launched her book Silence Is Not Golden, which urges women and girls to speak out against gender-based violence and child marriage. The same year she set up the Ghana Power Kids Charity Ball to raise support for children treated at the kwashiorkor unit of Princess Marie Louise Children's Hospital in Accra. She has been recognised by the Young African Leaders Initiative and was invited to the UN Summit of the Future in 2024.

National Film Authority

In early 2025 she was named Executive Secretary of the NFA, with James Gardiner as her deputy. The role puts her in charge of film classification, licensing and support for local producers.

Family

She married Canadian businessman Kojo Pitcher in 2011, and the couple have two children. Their daughter, Lorde, turned ten on 26 October 2026, and the birthday photos Kafui shared were widely circulated by fans and fellow actresses. Kafui celebrates her own birthday on 16 August; sources disagree on whether she was born in 1982 or 1983.
