Kojo Antwi

Kojo Antwi, "Mr Music Man", has 22 albums behind him and some of Ghana's best-loved love songs, with "Tom & Jerry" among the most popular across West Africa. He swept the 2001 Ghana Music Awards, taking Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year for Akuaba and Most Popular Song for "Tom and Jerry".

Darkuman roots

Julius Kojo Antwi grew up in Darkuman, Accra, one of 13 children. Straight after school he joined the band Boomtalents, then fronted Classique Handles, later renamed Classique Vibes, before going solo.

Records

His first solo album, All I Need Is You (1986), was a big hit in Ghana. It was followed by Anokye, Don't Stop the Music, Mr Music Man, Groovy, To Mother Afrika, Superman, Afrafra, Akuaba, Densu, Tattoo and Mwaaah! (2009). He sings in Twi over a mix of highlife, soukous, lovers rock and soul. His honours include Kora Awards for best West African male artiste, and he has also chaired GHAMRO, the music rights society. In June 2018 he began a US tour.

Family

His father, Opanin Kwadwo Asiama Asubonten, died at the Police Hospital in Accra on 2 January 2023, and his mother died in November 2024.
