Kwabena Kwabena

Kwabena Kwabena's name refers to his two trades: Kwabena the draughtsman and Kwabena the highlife singer. His debut album Aso turned 20 in 2025, and that October he announced a remix of the title song with Stonebwoy and Kofi Kinaata.

Church guitarist

George Kwabena Adu was born on 17 October 1978. He went to Datus Complex in Bubuashie, Green Hill School in Achimota, Aggrey JSS and St. Peter's Secondary School at Nkwatia. He took up the guitar in church at 14 and led the choir, then spent time at Hush Hush studios, where he met Hammer of The Last Two.

Highlife hits

He first got noticed on Kontihene's 2004 hit "Esi", and Kontihene returned the favour on "Aso". Three songs from the Aso album were used in the film The Perfect Picture. Other hits include "Ka Kyere Me", "Trodom", "Fakye Me" and "Me Ne Woa". His second album, Dabi, came in 2007 and Daakye, with "Bue Kwan" and "Adult Music", in 2013. He won Best Male Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the Year at the 2006 Ghana Music Awards and has been named Highlife Artiste of the Year several times. Since 2014 he has headlined an annual Love Night concert.

Off stage

He runs the KwabenaKwabena Save A Life Foundation. In 2023 he said he had gone back to school for a degree at the University of Professional Studies, Accra.
