Trey La

Trey La, born Charles Selorm Dumenu in Hohoe on 23 November 1986, is a rapper, writer and social activist. He became known on TV as a finalist in The Next Big Thing in GH Hip Hop in 2012.

Early life and education

He was raised by his paternal grandparents, R.G.K. and Paulina Dumenu. He attended Kabore School Complex in Ho and Bishop Herman College in Kpando, took his first degree at the University of Education, Winneba, and holds an HND from Kumasi Technical University and an MBA in logistics and supply chain management from KNUST.

Career

He worked at Stanbic Bank for a while before committing to music. His 2011 single One Man Army, with King Fad and produced by E.L, has verses in eight Ghanaian languages. He appeared on the Rising Stars of GH mixtape series curated by the producer Coptic, who signed him in 2014, leading to The Introduction Mixtape. Other projects include Passive Religionist, Locally Acquired Foreign Accents, Big Things Start Small and Kevin Ekow Taylor.

He released The Money Trey as both a book and an EP, and is credited as the first Ghanaian artist to pair a book and a record on the same theme.
