Ajeezay

Ajeezay, born Nathaniel Mensah, is a Ghanaian comedian, actor and musician known as the "Nonfa King" for his rhyming one-liners built on nonfa, Ghanaian slang for double meaning. He is also a trained science teacher: he graduated with first class honours from the University of Cape Coast and added a master's degree in special education in 2025.

Family and school

Mensah is the last of six children of Christiana Fofo Allotey and a lawyer father. He attended Nsaba Presbyterian Senior High School and then the University of Cape Coast, where he studied for a Bachelor of Science in Education, majoring in chemistry and biology. He finished in 2011 with first class honours.

The Nonfa King

Rather than go into teaching full time, he chose comedy. His style rests on wordplay: short rhymes and punchlines that sound innocent but carry a second meaning. He told the Daily Graphic that the craft is about finding "a word that is meaningful to rhyme with". He also remixes popular songs for laughs, and his comic version of "Jerusalema" went viral in 2020.

In 2017 he staged his own show, Ajeezay Live Nonfaly, and he has shared bills at events such as Comedy Fiesta and Comedy Express with comedians including DKB, OB Amponsah, Lekzy DeComic and Clemento Suarez. He names the late Bishop Bob Okalla, a pioneer of Ghanaian stand-up who died in 2016, as his biggest influence and has said he wants to continue his legacy.

Skits, screen and music

Online, he built his audience through skits such as "Area Boy" and "Problem Child", and he has appeared in music videos for artists including Shatta Wale. His #NonfaChallenge led to a public dispute with the Nigerian comedian Josh2Funny, whose #DontLeaveMeChallenge Ajeezay said borrowed from his idea.

On 5 December 2020 he released a debut EP, Evolution, with features from Koo Ntakra and Amerado.

Awards and study

His skits were nominated for Best Comedy Skit at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2017 and for Best Viral Comedy Skit at the COPO Awards in 2019. In 2020 One Awards Ghana named him Comedian of the Year.

On 19 December 2025 he graduated from the University of Cape Coast with a Master of Education in Special Education. He said the degree would help him "passionately advocate for inclusivity across all walks of life". In 2019 he joined the ABLE Initiative to support Elizabeth Asantewaa, a survivor of a bomb blast.
