Akrobeto

Akrobeto is one of Ghana's most beloved comic entertainers, a veteran Kumawood actor who found a remarkable second act as a viral internet sensation late in his career. Few Ghanaian performers have made the world laugh quite as widely as he has.

Early life

He was born Akwasi Boadi on 18 November 1962 in Ayirebi, in the Eastern Region. He completed middle school in 1979, and though academics were not his strength, his gift for comedy made him a favourite in his community long before fame found him.

Kumawood career

He became a fixture of Kumawood, featuring in more than 100 Twi-language films, his expressive face and distinctive features making him instantly recognisable. He built a reputation as one of the most dependable comic actors in the industry.

Viral fame

His biggest breakthrough came unexpectedly through television and the internet. As host of The Real News on UTV, his gloriously exaggerated, enthusiastic reading of European football results went viral in 2020, and clips of him were picked up and played by presenters on CNN and other international networks, turning a Ghanaian comedian into a global talking point.
