Akwasi Bugati

Akwasi Bugati is the richest Ghanaian journalist, with an estimated net worth of GH₵2.05 million.

Franklin Fentim Appiah, known online as Akwasi Bugati, is a Ghanaian digital journalist, blogger and content creator. He is the founder and team lead of Akwasi Bugati Media, an Accra-based platform that covers news, entertainment, sports, lifestyle, technology and live events, and has a following across Snapchat, Instagram, X and YouTube under the Akwasi Bugati name.

Drobo, Berekum and Kumasi

Appiah was born on 8 October 1995 at St. Mary's Catholic Hospital in Drobo and comes from Asiri in the Bono Region. He grew up in Berekum, where he attended Voice of Deliverance Preparatory and JHS, and then went to St. Hubert Seminary in Kumasi for his secondary education. He later earned a diploma in computer science at Doxa Open University in Dansoman, Accra.

Odd jobs to tech blogging

His path into media was anything but direct. After secondary school he worked as a mobile money agent in Berekum, then moved to Accra in 2016. There he worked as a shop attendant and a hotel receptionist before starting his own business, Fenit IT Solutions, repairing phones and computers.

That work led him to write about technology on a WordPress blog, Fenitit, which gave him his first taste of publishing online.

Building Akwasi Bugati Media

He started blogging on news and entertainment as a side hustle in 2020 and created the Akwasi Bugati identity in 2021. Akwasi Bugati Media launched formally in 2022, and in 2023 he left his other work to run it full time. He now leads a team of five.

The platform is known for live updates from events, trending stories and interviews with musicians, politicians and professionals. It has worked with brands and organisations including MTN Ghana, Samsung Ghana, CompuGhana, Bolt Ghana, Coca-Cola Ghana, Guinness Ghana, the Millennium Excellence Foundation and Afro Arab Group.

Training and recognition

Appiah has taken part in the TikTok Africa Summit organised with Ghana's Ministry of Communications and has completed training in migration reporting and cybersecurity reporting. In 2025 the Late Bloomers Network named him Digital Influencer and Engagement of the Year. Outside work, his interests include sport, documentaries, travel, tourism and culture.
