Bisa Kdei

Bisa Kdei began by writing music for films. In 2013 he won best movie soundtrack at both the Ghana Movie Awards and the Kumawood Movie Awards, and two years later "Mansa" made him the biggest new name in highlife.

Early life

He was born Ronald Kwaku Dei Appiah on 19 March 1986 and grew up in Accra; his family roots are in the Eastern Region. His mother died at Cocoa Clinic on 19 August 2015, the year his career took off.

Highlife revival

His first album, Thanksgiving, was launched on 21 December 2013 and produced "Odo Carpenter". "Mansa", released on 16 June 2015, swept the 2016 Ghana Music Awards, where he won Highlife Song, Highlife Artiste, Album of the Year for Breakthrough (December 2015) and Most Popular Song. He had already been named Songwriter of the Year in 2015. Later singles include "Life" with Patoranking (2016), "Apae" (2017), "Asew" (2018), "Adiza" with Adekunle Gold (2019) and "Bra" (2019), and the album Highlife Konnect came out in 2018. A remix of "Asew" was used in the 2020 Netflix musical Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey.

He produces much of his own work and releases it through his label, Black Legendary Music. He also won Video of the Year at AFRIMMA in 2016.

Personal life

In July 2015 he denied tabloid reports of a relationship with the singer Becca. He married in a private ceremony on 13 January 2024.
