Ebenezer Sekyi-Hughes

Ebenezer Begyina Sekyi-Hughes is a lawyer who was Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana from 2005 to 2009, during President Kufuor's second term. He was born in Cape Coast on 4 September 1939.

He went to the Government Boys' School in Cape Coast and Adisadel College, took a degree at the University of Ghana in 1964 and qualified at the Ghana School of Law in 1966. He practised in Accra and Takoradi, became a notary public in 1974 and a senior advocate in 1990, and led the Western Region branch of the Ghana Bar Association from 1977 to 1981, sitting on the Judicial Council over the same years.

The chiefs and people of the Western Region elected him to the Council of State in 2001. A long-time New Patriotic Party member who sat on its council of elders, he was elected Speaker in January 2005. He is married with six children.
