Peter Ala Adjetey

Peter Ala Adjetey was a lawyer and New Patriotic Party politician who served as Speaker of Parliament from 2001 to 2005. He was born at La in Accra on 11 August 1931 and died on 15 July 2008.

He went to Accra Academy, studied at the University College of the Gold Coast and took a law degree at the University of Nottingham, and was called to the bar at the Middle Temple in 1959. He worked as a law officer in the Attorney-General's department and lectured at the Ghana School of Law, and was president of the Ghana Bar Association from 1985 to 1989, during the PNDC era. In 2000 he became president of the African Bar Association.

He was MP for Kpeshie in the Third Republic and led the United National Convention's parliamentary group. He chaired the NPP from 1995 to 1998, and after the party's 2000 victory was elected Speaker of the Third Parliament of the Fourth Republic. He chaired the board of governors of Accra Academy for ten years and received the Order of the Volta in 2008.
