Samuel Marful-Sau

Samuel Kofi Marful-Sau was a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana from 2018 until his death in August 2021. He was born at Assin Edubiase in the Central Region.

He moved through several schools before taking his A levels at Navrongo Secondary School, then read law at the University of Ghana and was called to the bar in 1984. After national service at the Castle Information Bureau and as a prosecutor in the office of the Special Public Prosecutor, he joined Vidal L. Buckle and Company in 1987 and practised immigration, corporate, commercial and insurance law. He also sat on the Law Reform Commission from 1998 to 2005, and later took a master's in petroleum law and policy at the University of Dundee.

He became a High Court judge in 2002 and an Appeal Court judge in 2006. He sat on the committee that recommended the removal of Electoral Commission chair Charlotte Osei, and critics claimed his nomination to the Supreme Court by President Akufo-Addo in 2018 was a reward for it, which the government denied. He sat on the panel that heard the 2020 election petition and wrote A Practical Guide to Civil Procedure in Ghana (2017). He died at the Ga East Hospital on 10 August 2021 after a short illness.
