S. K. B. Asante

Samuel Kwadwo Boaten Asante, known as S. K. B. Asante, is a lawyer, international arbitrator and the paramount chief of Asokore in the Ashanti Region. He was born on 11 May 1933.

He went to Achimota School, took a law degree at the University of Nottingham in 1956 and an LLM at the University of London, and earned a doctorate in law (JSD) at Yale in 1965. He also holds an MPhil in African studies from the University of Ghana, where he was one of the first residents of Legon Hall.

He is best known at home as chairman of the Committee of Experts that drew up the proposals for Ghana's 1992 Constitution. Internationally he spent years at the United Nations on the law of foreign investment and transnational corporations, and he has sat on the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce and on panels of the World Bank's International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Ghana and is honorary chancellor of the Graduate School of Governance and Leadership.
