Richard Adjei-Frimpong

Richard Adjei-Frimpong is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana, approved unanimously by Parliament in December 2023. He was born at Acherensua in the Ahafo Region on 27 February 1971.

He went to school in Acherensua through to A levels, read law at the University of Ghana, where he was JCR president of Legon Hall, and was called to the bar in 1998. He later took an LLM in international maritime law at the IMO International Maritime Law Institute in Malta. He practised at Otu-Essel and Associates in Sunyani until 2003.

He joined the Judicial Service as a district magistrate in Bekwai in 2003, was a circuit judge in Bekwai and Kumasi, and sat on the High Court in Accra, Tema and Sekondi from 2010 to 2020, when he joined the Court of Appeal. He teaches admiralty law at the University of Ghana School of Law and sits on the board of Asutifi Rural Bank. President Akufo-Addo nominated him to the Supreme Court in November 2023, with Henry Anthony Kwofie and Yaw Darko Asare, to replace retired justices including Chief Justice Anin-Yeboah.
