About Rita Agyeman-Budu
Rita Agyeman-Budu was a High Court judge and president of the Ghana chapter of the International Association of Women Judges. She was born Rita Amaku Ayiku in Kumasi on 19 September 1960 and died in July 2025 at the age of 64.
Her father, from Big Ada, was a chief telecommunications inspector and her mother a trader from Adansi Fomena. She went to Mfantsiman Girls' Secondary School and was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.
She rose to the High Court bench and led the Ghana chapter of the International Association of Women Judges, which works for gender equality in the courts. She married Kwame Agyeman-Budu in 1984 and they had three sons; the eldest, Dr Kwaku Agyeman-Budu, is dean of the GIMPA law school.
