Genevieve Partington

Genevieve Partington is a Ghanaian human rights advocate and professional who has served as the Country Director of Amnesty International Ghana, leading the operations of one of the world's most recognised human rights organisations in the Ghanaian context. In this role, she has been responsible for the organisation's advocacy work, research, campaigns, and public engagement on human rights issues affecting Ghana and the broader West African region.

Amnesty International's work in Ghana covers a wide range of issues including freedom of expression, rights of marginalised communities, accountability for security force conduct, the treatment of prisoners and detainees, and Ghana's engagement with international human rights instruments and mechanisms. As Country Director, Genevieve has provided strategic leadership for this work, managing teams, building coalitions with civil society partners, and representing the organisation in public and media spaces.

Her leadership of Amnesty Ghana has required navigating the intersection of international human rights standards and Ghanaian legal and political realities, advocating for improved rights protections while engaging constructively with government institutions and building public understanding of human rights principles. This work involves both the confrontational dimensions of holding power accountable and the more collaborative work of education and norm-building.
