Isaac Kwame Asiamah

Isaac Kwame Asiamah made history in 2005 as the youngest person ever elected to Ghana's Parliament, and went on to hold the Atwima-Mponua seat in the Ashanti Region for twenty years and serve four years as Minister for Youth and Sports. He was born in Mampong on 24 December 1975.

Party youth leader

Asiamah came up through the New Patriotic Party (NPP) machinery rather than the professions. After graduating from the University of Ghana in 2000 with a degree in geography and political science, he worked as a policy analyst at the party's Accra headquarters and served as its national youth organiser. He later added a master's in governance and leadership from GIMPA.

A 29-year-old MP

He won Atwima-Mponua in the 2004 election at 29, taking about two-thirds of the vote, and held the record as the youngest MP until Francisca Oteng-Mensah won her seat at 23 in 2016. He was re-elected in every election up to 2020.

Sports minister

President Akufo-Addo made him Minister for Youth and Sports in 2017. At his vetting he promised more transparency in the payment of bonuses and allowances to national teams, a long-running source of trouble in Ghana football. He left the ministry at the end of the first term in 2021.

He left Parliament in January 2025, and Seth Osei-Akoto kept the seat for the NPP.
