Joseph Zaphenat Amenowode

Joseph Zaphenat Amenowode is an art educator who represented Hohoe South, later renamed Afadjato South, in the Volta Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from 2005 to 2017 and served as Volta Regional Minister from 2009 to 2012. His family comes from Ve-Deme.

Amenowode was born in Accra, attended Hohoe E.P. Secondary School and Kpando Secondary School, and studied art at KNUST, earning a BA, a postgraduate diploma and a master's degree. He took a Master of Professional Studies in art therapy at the Pratt Institute in New York in 1997. He taught in the Ghana Education Service and lectured at the University of Education, Winneba. He won the seat in 2004 with 76 percent of the vote. President Mills appointed him Volta Regional Minister in 2009 and dropped him in a reshuffle in March 2012. He chaired the Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises Committee. Frank Afriyie of the NDC holds Afadjato South today.
