Frank Afriyie
Member of Parliament
About Frank Afriyie
Frank Afriyie is a Ghanaian politician and agriculturalist who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Afadjato South constituency in the Volta Region. A member of the National Democratic Congress, he assumed office on 7 January 2025 and won the seat with one of the highest vote-share margins in the Ninth Parliament, returning in the Volta Region's sweeping NDC performance during the 2024 election cycle.
Education
Afriyie attended Bishop Herman Senior High School, where he obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination in May 1997. He went on to the College of Agriculture and Allied Sciences, earning a General Certificate in Agriculture in 2002. He then enrolled at the University of Ghana, Legon, and graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with Psychology, giving him a dual grounding in political theory and human behaviour that has informed his public life and community organising work.
Parliamentary career
He contested the Afadjato South constituency in the December 2024 general election and won with 20,618 votes representing 82.65 per cent of valid ballots cast, one of the dominant individual margins in any constituency in the 2024 cycle. Afadjato South is located in the Ho West and Afadzato South District area of the Volta Region, a mountainous constituency that borders Togo and includes the communities that cluster around Mount Afadjato, Ghana's highest peak. The constituency's terrain, its cross-border economic dynamics, and the agricultural livelihoods of its residents define the development priorities that Afriyie carries into Parliament. He has combined his political work with an active interest in the agricultural sector that his technical education first prepared him for.
Political Legacy
Frank Afriyie's electoral margin of over 82 per cent in Afadjato South confirms the strength of NDC support in the Volta Region's heartland constituencies and gives his first term a democratic foundation among the most secure of any first-term MP in the Ninth Parliament. His agricultural and social science background gives him practical preparation for the rural development and community service demands of one of the Volta Region's more geographically distinctive constituencies.
