Portia Solomon Gabor

Portia Gabor was named Journalist of the Year at the 26th Ghana Journalists Association awards, where her reports "Beggar's Paradise" and "Wealth for Health" also won the television news and health reporting prizes. She has worked at TV3 since 2002.

Background

Born Portia Solomon on 27 April to Audrey Arde-Acquah and Seth Solomon, she grew up in Accra and attended Aglow Children's Centre in Madina, the University of Ghana Basic School and Krobo Girls' Senior High School. She took a communication diploma at the African University College of Communications, studied psychology at the University of Ghana, did national service at the Information Services Department and later earned a master's in development communication at the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

At TV3

She joined in September 2002 as a reporter and became an anchor, producer and editor of features and documentaries. Her investigations focus on health, the environment and social development, often reported from rural communities. She has interviewed the Queen of Denmark and joined the US State Department's International Visitor Leadership Programme in 2018. GJA honours include best TV news reporter in 2017 and best environment reporter in 2018, and in 2019 she won a Merck More Than a Mother media award for a report on infertility.
