Richard Kwami Sefe

Richard Kwame Sefe is a Ghanaian educator, public administrator and politician born on 11 October 1972 who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Anlo constituency in the Volta Region. A member of the National Democratic Congress who first won the seat in the 2020 general election and retained it in December 2024 with one of the largest individual majorities in that election, he is a former Deputy Director of the Ghana Education Service who now brings an education policy perspective to parliamentary representation of one of the Volta Region's historic coastal fishing communities.

Education and career

Sefe attended Anlo Senior High School, one of the Volta Region's established secondary institutions, for his secondary education. He pursued higher education at the University of Cape Coast and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, building an academic and professional formation that prepared him for senior public education management. Before entering Parliament, he served as Deputy Director of the Ghana Education Service, a position in the national education administration bureaucracy that gave him operational oversight responsibility for aspects of Ghana's basic and secondary education system delivery, curriculum implementation and the administrative coordination of a large national institution. His GES service is directly relevant to the advocacy for educational infrastructure and teacher welfare that shapes parliamentary engagement on basic education policy.

Parliamentary career

He was first elected Member of Parliament for the Anlo constituency in December 2020, replacing Clement Kofi Humado who had held the seat since 2005. In December 2024, he retained the Anlo seat with 36,419 votes representing 89 per cent of valid ballots, one of the dominant individual parliamentary results in the 2024 election. The Anlo constituency is located in the Keta Municipal District of the Volta Region, covering the coastal fishing communities and lagoon-side towns of the Anlo Ewe area where the Atlantic coast fisheries, salt mining and trade define the economy. He serves on the Gender and Children Committee and the Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises Committee, committee assignments with direct relevance to the social development challenges of a coastal constituency community.

Political Legacy

Richard Kwame Sefe's Ghana Education Service career, his 89-per-cent 2024 majority and his committee service on gender and employment issues give his second parliamentary term the institutional depth of a public sector education professional representing one of the Volta Region's most electorally loyal NDC constituencies.
