Tanko Mustapha Amadu

Tanko Mustapha Amadu, known in political circles by the nickname Tanko-Computer, is a Ghanaian commerce and finance professional and politician born in 1984 in Kumasi who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Bia West constituency in the Western North Region. A member of the National Democratic Congress who won the seat in December 2024 as a first-term parliamentarian, he assumed office on 7 January 2025 representing a constituency in the Bia West District of the Western North Region, a forested area bordering Cote d'Ivoire where cocoa farming, rubber cultivation and small-scale gold and timber activities shape the local economy.

Education

Amadu attended Universal Preparatory School and obtained his Basic Education Certificate Examination results in March 1999. He completed his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations at Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School in June 2002. He then pursued commerce education at the University of Cape Coast, completing a Diploma in Commerce in September 2011 and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in September 2014. He subsequently obtained a Master of Business Administration in Finance in May 2020, a postgraduate management degree in corporate finance that added a business school dimension to his commerce undergraduate formation. His consistent engagement with academic upgrading across multiple degree levels reflects a deliberate investment in professional credentials that supported his political ambitions.

2024 election and parliamentary career

He contested the Bia West constituency in December 2024 on the NDC ticket and won with 27,387 votes, defeating the NPP candidate in a constituency that is part of the Western North Region's forested interior, near the Ivorian border. He assumed office on 7 January 2025. Bia West is a constituency in the Bia West District, an area whose logging, cocoa and rubber agricultural economy intersects with cross-border trade through the communities along the Ghanaian side of the Bia River forest border zone with Cote d'Ivoire.
