Augustine Tawiah

Dr Augustine Tawiah is an educator and theologian who represented Bia West in the Western North Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) until 2025. He founded Bia Lamplighter College of Education and led Ghana's National Teaching Council. He was born on 27 September 1961 and comes from Sefwi Asuopiri.

Theology and teaching

Tawiah attended St Thomas Aquinas and Labone senior high schools and did most of his higher education in the United States, with degrees from the University of Memphis, Harding University and Lipscomb University, including doctorates in ministry and in education leadership and policy. He worships in the Church of Christ.

Education leader

Around 2004 he established Bia Lamplighter College of Education in his home area. He was academic dean at Ghana Christian University College, acting chief inspector of the National Inspectorate Board and executive secretary of the National Teaching Council, which licenses teachers. He also lectures and consults at GIMPA.

Mustapha Amadu Tanko of the NDC succeeded him as MP for Bia West in 2025.
