Bede Anwataazumo Ziedeng

Bede Anwataazumo Ziedeng is a Ghanaian lawyer and politician born on 22 October 1954, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Lawra constituency in the Upper West Region. A member of the National Democratic Congress with a long history of public service in Ghana's far northwest, he combines legal qualifications earned in the 1980s with decades of experience in parliamentary representation and regional administration, making him one of the more seasoned figures in Upper West Region politics.

Education and legal career

Ziedeng pursued his legal education and earned a Bachelor of Laws degree with Honours in 1984, followed by Call to the Bar as a Barrister at Law in 1986. His legal training placed him among the formally qualified lawyers in Ghana's Upper West Region at a time when such professional credentials were relatively rare in the area and gave him a professional foundation for both legal practice and the public service roles that followed. His career combined legal work with regional administrative responsibilities, serving at various points as a public official in the Northern and Upper West Regional administrations.

Political journey

Ziedeng's political journey involved an early departure from the NDC. In the 2008 general election, he contested the Lawra-Nandom parliamentary seat on the ticket of the Democratic Freedom Party, an opposition party, losing to the NPP's Ambrose Dery. He subsequently returned to NDC alignment and has since represented the Lawra constituency in Parliament on the NDC ticket across multiple terms. He also served as Deputy Regional Minister for the Northern and Upper West regions, an executive government role that gave him ministerial experience of the administrative priorities affecting Ghana's northernmost regions. In Parliament he serves as a Ranking Member, a senior portfolio assignment that reflects his seniority within the NDC's parliamentary caucus.
