About Benita Sena Okity-Duah
Benita Sena Okity-Duah is a fashion designer and former Miss Ghana who represented Ledzokuku in Accra for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from 2013 to 2017, becoming the first Miss Ghana winner elected to Parliament. She was born in Anloga on 19 June 1976.
Miss Ghana and fashion
Born Benita Golomeke, she won Miss Ghana in 1997 at the age of 20 while still a student. She attended Achimota School and studied fashion in London for four years, returning to Ghana in 2003 to found LadyBird Fashions in Accra.
Politics
She was the NDC's women's organiser in Ledzokuku before resigning to challenge the sitting MP, Nii Nortey Dua, in the primary, which she won. She took the seat in 2012 and served as a Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection from April 2013 to June 2014 and then as a Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture. She lost the seat in 2016 to the NPP's Bernard Okoe-Boye. She is married to Steve Okity-Duah. Benjamin Narteh Ayiku of the NDC holds Ledzokuku today.
