About Bernice Adiku Heloo
Dr Bernice Adiku Heloo (24 September 1954 – 25 December 2024) was an adult educator, HIV/AIDS campaigner and National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Hohoe in the Volta Region from 2013 to 2021.
Education
Born in Hohoe to Rev. E.T. Adiku and Comfort Adiku, Heloo attended Mawuli School and OLA Girls' Secondary School in Ho. She studied religion and adult education at the University of Ghana, took an MEd in adult education and literacy for rural development at the University of Manchester, and a doctorate in political economy from the Swiss Management Center University.
Women and AIDS
She was president of the Society for Women and AIDS in Africa and founded Prolink, a Ghanaian NGO.
Parliament
She represented Hohoe for two terms. In 2019 she criticised President Akufo-Addo for leaving the kidnapping of the Takoradi girls out of his State of the Nation address. She died on 25 December 2024, aged 70. Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo of the NDC holds the seat today.
