Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah

Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah is a freight businessman and lecturer who represented Tema West in the Greater Accra Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2017 to 2025. He is one of the most talked-about MPs of his era, remembered both for his trade portfolio and for two headline controversies.

Shipping and logistics

Ahenkorah attended Tema Secondary School and Abuakwa State College and holds a master's degree in ports and shipping administration from the Regional Maritime University and the University of Ghana Business School. He has run Carlos King Freight Services since 1992 and worked for the Jospong group as a sales executive, marketing manager of Zoomlion Ghana and managing director of J. A. Plant Pool. He has also lectured at the Regional Maritime University and at GIMPA.

Deputy trade minister

He served as a Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry and chaired Parliament's Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee. In July 2020 he resigned as deputy minister after visiting a voter registration centre while he had tested positive for COVID-19, a breach of isolation rules that drew calls for his dismissal.

The ballot incident

In January 2021, during the live broadcast of the election of the Speaker, he was filmed snatching ballot papers in the chamber and running for the exit before they were recovered. The then Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, denied instructing him to do so.

After two terms he chose not to seek re-election in 2024. James Enu of the National Democratic Congress won Tema West.
