Titus Kofi Beyuo

Professor Titus Kofi Beyuo is a Ghanaian obstetrician-gynaecologist, epidemiologist, academic and politician born on 14 September 1981 who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Lambussie constituency in the Upper West Region. A member of the National Democratic Congress who reclaimed the Lambussie seat in December 2024 after it had been held by the NPP, he is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Medical School, a former General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association and one of the most academically credentialled medical scientist-parliamentarians in the Ninth Parliament.

Education

Beyuo completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Ghana in 2005. He obtained the MBChB, the primary medical degree qualifying him as a medical doctor, from the University of Ghana Medical School in 2009. He completed a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Ghana in 2013, adding postgraduate research training in medical sciences to his clinical qualifications. In 2018, he obtained a certificate from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. His highest academic distinction came in 2022 when he earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, a European research university doctorate in epidemiology that cemented his reputation as a physician-scientist working at the intersection of clinical medicine and population health research. He is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and an Epidemiologist by specialty, and serves as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Medical School.

Ghana Medical Association leadership

He was elected General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association in November 2021 for a two-year term, the principal administrative leadership role within the professional body representing medical doctors in Ghana. He resigned from the GMA General Secretaryship in February 2023 to contest the NDC's parliamentary primary for Lambussie, prioritising political engagement in his home constituency over the completion of his medical association term.

2024 election

He contested the Lambussie constituency and won with 13,551 votes, defeating the incumbent NPP MP Bright Bakye Yelviel Baligi who received 6,079 votes, reclaiming a seat for the NDC in the Upper West Region constituency in the Lambussie-Karni District near the border with Burkina Faso.

Political Legacy

Professor Titus Kofi Beyuo's Utrecht PhD, his clinical expertise in obstetrics and gynaecology, his Senior Lectureship at the UG Medical School and his GMA General Secretaryship give his parliamentary career the most formidable medical science academic formation among Upper West Region MPs, with direct implications for his advocacy on maternal and reproductive health, a critical development challenge in the region he serves.
