Derrick Oduro

Major Derrick Oduro (retired) is a former army officer who represented Nkoranza North in the Bono East Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) until 2021 and served as a Deputy Minister for Defence. He was born on 23 February 1958 and comes from Dromankese.

Twenty-six years in uniform

Oduro worked as a bursar at Akosas Business College before joining the Ghana Armed Forces in 1979. He served until 2005, retiring as a major, and then became presiding member of the Nkoranza District Assembly. He holds an MA in governance and leadership from GIMPA and qualifications in public finance and from Cranfield University.

Parliament

He won Nkoranza North on the NPP ticket in the late 2000s and held it until 2021, bringing his military background to the defence ministry as deputy minister. In 2020 he lost to Joseph Kwasi Mensah of the National Democratic Congress. He is a Seventh-day Adventist, married with six children.
