Doris Asibi Seidu

Doris Asibi Seidu was a teacher and social worker who represented Chereponi, in today's North East Region, for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2005 until her death in 2009. She was the first woman to represent the constituency. She was born in Accra in 1969.

She trained at Bimbilla Training College and Tamale Training College before teaching and working as a social worker. She won Chereponi in 2004 and again in 2008 with 52.3 percent of the vote, and served on the Education, Mines and Energy committees, pushing rural electrification, schools and scholarships in the constituency. She died of heart and kidney complications at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on 31 July 2009, aged 40, leaving her husband and a child. Samuel Abdulai Jabanyite of the NDC won the by-election that September.
