About Edward Abambire Bawa
Edward Abambire Bawa is an energy communications specialist who represented Bongo in the Upper East Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from 2017 to 2025, and was appointed acting Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) in January 2025. He was born on 1 September 1973 and comes from Bongo-Lungu.
Chemistry teacher to oil and gas
Bawa trained in chemistry education at the University of Cape Coast, graduating in 2002, and took an MBA in business finance at the University of Liverpool in 2007. He built his career in energy communication, heading communications for the World Bank-funded oil and gas capacity building project at the Ministry of Petroleum. He also holds certificates in development and risk communication and postgraduate certificates from the Harvard School of Public Health and the University of Southern California.
Bongo
He won Bongo in 2016 and again in 2020.
GNPC
After the NDC returned to power, President Mahama appointed him acting chief executive of GNPC with effect from 17 January 2025, succeeding Joseph Dadzie. Charles Bawaduah of the NDC succeeded him as MP for Bongo.
