About Elizabeth Sackey
Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey is a former banker who represented Okaikwei North in Accra for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for three terms, from 2005 to 2017, and in 2021 became the first woman to serve as Mayor of Accra. She was born in Asere, Accra, on 6 May 1958.
Sackey worked as a chief clerk at Ghana Commercial Bank before entering politics. She won Okaikwei North in 2004, 2008 and 2012. Under President Akufo-Addo she was Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister from 2017 to 2020, and in September 2021 she was nominated and confirmed as Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the first woman to lead the capital. She worships at the Church of Pentecost and is married with four children. Theresa Lardi Awuni of the NDC holds Okaikwei North today.
