About Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi
Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi is a town planner and New Patriotic Party (NPP) politician who held the Odotobri seat in the Ashanti Region for twenty years, from 2005 to 2025, and chaired Parliament's Local Government and Rural Development Committee.
Planning and rural banking
Born on 1 December 1974 at Homase No. 2, Gyamfi studied planning at KNUST, graduating in 2000, and later took an executive master's at GIMPA. He worked for a non-governmental organisation and then as project manager at Odotobri Rural Bank before entering Parliament.
Five terms
He first won Odotobri in 2004, aged 30, with more than 80 percent of the vote, and never came close to losing it. His planning background suited the local government brief, and he spent years on and then at the head of the Local Government and Rural Development Committee, which oversees district assemblies and decentralisation. He also served on the Health and Government Assurance committees.
Anthony Mmieh succeeded him as the NPP's MP for Odotobri in 2025.
