About Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko
Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko (10 December 1957 – 21 November 2018) was a pharmacist and New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon in Accra from 2013 until his death.
A political family
Agyarko trained as a pharmacist at KNUST. His mother came from Krobo Odumase and his father from Jamasi. His brother, Boakye Agyarko, was Minister for Energy and former head of the Food and Drugs Board, and his sister, Dedo Difie Agyarko-Kusi, became Ghana's ambassador to South Korea.
Parliament
He chaired Parliament's Environment, Science and Technology Committee and had earlier served on the Government Assurance and Health committees.
Death and by-election
He died on 21 November 2018 at Yale-New Haven Hospital in the United States, where he was being treated after surgery. He was married with seven children. The by-election for his seat in January 2019 was won by the NPP's Lydia Alhassan and marred by violence that led to a commission of inquiry. John Dumelo of the NDC holds the seat today.
