Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum

Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum is a Ghanaian politician of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South in the Bono East Region, and Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives. Parliament approved his appointment on 29 January 2025.

Early life and education

He was born on 3 December 1973 in Nkoranza. After middle school and Kumasi Technical Institute he studied in the United Kingdom, earning a BA from Kingston University in 2007 and a postgraduate diploma in global business from the University of Westminster in 2008, and later an MBA from the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen, Germany.

Local government

From January 2009 to January 2013 he was Municipal Chief Executive of Nkoranza South, and from 2013 to 2017 he served as a Deputy Minister of Local Government.

Parliament

He first won Nkoranza South in 2012, defeating the NPP incumbent. He lost the seat in 2016 to the NPP's Charles Konadu-Yiadom, won it back in 2020 with 29,408 votes (56.8 per cent), and held it again in December 2024. In May 2022 he accused the police of firing live bullets during the fatal shooting in Nkoranza and called on Ghanaians to stand against police brutality.

Personal life

He is a Seventh-day Adventist and is married to Adwoa Santuo Agyekum.
