Edward Salia

Edward Kojo Salia was a minister in the Rawlings government and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Jirapa in the Upper West Region from 2001 until his death in February 2009. He was born at Amasaman on 20 June 1952.

He studied at the University of Ghana, the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague and Carleton University in Canada. President Rawlings made him Minister of Transport and Communications in 1993, and he later served as Minister for Mines and Energy and for Roads and Transport. He won Jirapa in 2000 with 87.9 percent of the vote and held it in 2004 and 2008, but died on 16 February 2009, weeks into his third term. Cletus Seidu Dapilah of the NDC holds Jirapa today.
