Gifty Twum-Ampofo

Gifty Twum-Ampofo is a science teacher turned politician who represented Abuakwa North in the Eastern Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2016 to 2025. She served as Deputy Minister for Education responsible for technical and vocational training, and later as Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Science teacher

Born in Kukurantumi on 11 June 1967, Twum-Ampofo studied biology at the University of Cape Coast and later earned an MBA in strategic management. She taught science at Akosombo International School, the Volta River Authority's school, where she became head of the science department and head of examinations.

By-election winner

She entered Parliament through a 2016 by-election after the death of the MP, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, winning almost 90 percent of the vote. She was re-elected in the 2016 and 2020 general elections.

TVET champion

As deputy education minister she was the face of the government's push to make technical and vocational education more attractive to young people. She is married with three children and worships as a Methodist. Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo Frempong succeeded her in 2025.
