Hackman Owusu-Agyemang

Hackman Owusu-Agyemang is an agricultural economist who represented New Juaben North in the Eastern Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for four terms, from 1997 to 2013, and served as Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2001 to 2003. He was born at Effiduase in Koforidua on 22 November 1941.

Twenty years at the FAO

He attended St Augustine's College, studied agriculture at KNUST and earned a master's from Wye College, University of London. He started at the Ministry of Agriculture in 1965 and joined the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome in 1970, later serving as its representative in Zambia and in Trinidad and Tobago and, from 1984, as head of its regional bureau for Africa.

Government

He won New Juaben North in 1996 and held it until 2013. When the NPP came to power he became Foreign Minister, then Minister for the Interior, then Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing from 2005 to 2007. In 2017 President Akufo-Addo made him chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board, and he has chaired the NPP's Council of Elders. His wife Comfort died in August 2022. Nana Osei-Adjei of the NPP holds New Juaben North today.
