Henry Ford Kamel

Henry Ford Kamel was a banker who represented Buem, in today's Oti Region, for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from 2005 and served as Volta Regional Minister from March 2012 until his death on Christmas Day 2012. He was born on 21 December 1961 and came from Guaman near Jasikan.

He trained as a banker and economist and was managing director of the North Volta Rural Bank. He won Buem in 2004, held it in 2008 with 65.8 percent of the vote, and was Deputy Minister for Lands and Forestry before President Mills made him Volta Regional Minister. As regional minister he worked to settle the conflict between the Hohoe and Zongo communities in the Gbi Traditional Area. He won Buem again on 7 December 2012, but collapsed at his home town on Christmas Day and died before reaching Jasikan Government Hospital, aged 51. Daniel Kosi Ashiamah of the NDC won the by-election that followed. His daughter set up the Kamel for Hope foundation in his memory in 2013.
